WHERE ARE YOUR MEATS FROM?

All of our USDA Choice and USDA Prime beef is sourced from US MidWestern Farms (simply put, this is the best beef out there).  We work with a network of family farmers in the corn belt states: Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, and Illinois. We choose these farmers because they raise Angus breed of cattle which is the best for steaks in an area that grows the best feed. We stay away from dairy cattle states.

All of the farms we work with have nutritionists on staff, and follow ethical standards. Our cows are provided high quality feed which includes a mix of grass and high quality grain... you are what you eat, so the right mix is important..

I hesitate from mentioning specific farms because as we work with family co-operatives, so we do our first round of quality control at the plants... which is where the beef is inspected to meet G1 certification standards (the top % of choice and of prime). This is also so we comply with all government regulations and are able to cross states.

The reason we chose to do it this way is so that we can scale and maintain consistency. If the supply, grade or quality slips in a specific area, we can maintain consistency with beef from farmers in another area. It’s all about quality and consistency which is really what is difficult to maintain.

Our Domestic Wagyu Beef is mostly sourced from the US MidWest . Our Japanese beef is sourced from the prefecture of Miyazaki, Japan.

This is the same beef you will find at the finest steakhouses in Chicago and New York. We believe Midwestern farms offer the best quality beef in the US. Our beef is processed in Chicago at USDA approved facilities before its shipped to Miami for distribution.

Our Wagyu-Angus Cross Beef (Prime+) is from Australia, depending of the time of the year. BMS8-9 Wagyu is sourced from Australia.

Our Lamb, Pork, Duck and Turkey is also sourced from the US Midwest. We have scoured the market to make sure we are only offering the highest quality out there. Our Chicken is sourced from Bell & Evans in PA.

Our Game Meats comes from Colorado, Canada and the MidWest.

The Seafood comes from different programs. Some Wild Caught, some farmed. All best in class, we have spent years developing our seafood offering

CAN I SELECT WHAT I WANT?

We give more options to our customers than our competitors on the subscription side. You will be able to select up to three proteins at check-out. However, if you want a-la-carte service you will need to buy directly from Meat N' Bone.

Allowing us to pick the proteins allows us to plan ahead and schedule production with our farms, processing facilities and partners in order to have larger margins and pass over those savings to the subscribers of the Grill Masters Box.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN TERM OF SPECIFIC STEAKS AND CUTS?

Expect amazing products that are great for the day to day, unless you selected the "Luxury" box which focuses on experience. The contents of your box will vary every shipment, but will always contain some of these items:

  • Beef: New York Strip, Filet Mignon and Ribeyes, as well as sirloin steaks and ground beef among others.
  • Fish: expect Salmon, Tuna, Branzino, Shrimp, Scallops, Snapper.
  • Pork: Ground Pork, Pork Chops, Pork Tenderloin.
  • Poultry: Whole Chicken, Ground Chicken, Breast, Tights, etc..
  • Game: Elk Filets, Venison Filets, Alligator, Camel, Ostrich, etc...

Before you check out, you can specify for any allergies and our team will make sure to address this within the proteins in your box.

CAN I FIND THE QUALITY OF MEAT YOU SELL AT THE LOCAL SUPERMARKET?

Unlikely. Supermarkets deal in massive volumes and competition keeps their margins small, their infrastructure is meant to sell as much as they can as quick as they can. When it comes to beef, the difference is even more steep as we have significantly better aging standards than your local supermarket.

The better the aging process, the better the meat usually is. High-end steakhouses and butchers such as us invest significant time and money into properly and consistently aging beef. However, even your average supermarket beef has been aged for at-least a week.

All of our beef is aged for at-least 30 days, some of our cuts are dry aged 21+ days and up to 60 days.

Our steaks are hand-selected and hand-cut by our expert butchers. Every portion is perfect... or as perfect as possible.

You may find similar high quality offerings at high end purveyors.  We have modeled our business after the best of the best... Meat N' Bone was born precisely because its hard to access Steakhouse Grade Beef at affordable prices... our operations is extremely lean to keep costs low.

All of our Flash Frozen food is fresh, meaning it was frozen in the last 10-15 days. Unlike some more recent competitors who buy their meats at the best price possible, freeze it and sell it you you frozen even if it is 1 year old meat.

Last but not least... supermarkets are deceiving.

Grass FedGrass RaisedChoice, Prime, Premium... all these claims are NOT regulated by the USDA. So often you think you are buying a USDA Prime steak and turns out you are just buying what "they" chose to call Prime.

Here is something we learned. Anyone and everyone can call their beef Prime, Choice or Grass Fed. But legally, a piece of beef only has to meet the definition of USDA Beef grades if you put the word USDA before... as in USDA Prime and USDA Choice. For example, "Georges Prime Beef" doesnt mean it is actually Prime.

HOW DO YOU COMPARE TO BUTCHER BOX?

Butcher Box was one of the first subscription boxes in the market, however most of their budget is spent in marketing. they source much lower quality products, a lot of it coming from outside of the US. Their beef is not USDA graded, least of all G1 certified.

At Meat N' Bone we ONLY source from outside of the USA (specifically the US Midwest) when  the product is just too special to pass up.

IS YOUR US MEAT CERTIFIED ORGANIC?

Some. Our producers follow Organic practices. Ferry Farms is an environmentally verified plant as well as Bell & Evans. But it's very difficult for small farms to obtain organic certification. We do not believe the premium for the certification is worth it. Simply put, we work with farmers who believe in doing things the right way.

GRAIN-FINISHED VS GRASS-FED?

All cattle are grass-fed and spend the majority of their lives on pasture eating grass. As cattle grow, grains like corn and wheat are added to their diets. This “grain finishing” enhances marbling in beef, giving it the great flavor we all enjoy. All beef, no matter how it was finished, is a good source of many essential nutrients, including zinc, iron and protein. And all beef is raised by farmers and ranchers who are passionate about bringing safe and wholesome beef to the table. As beef lovers, we appreciate all types of beef, and we believe this answer is a matter of taste.

We do have a collection of 100% Grass Fed and 100% grass finished beef sources from a one farm program in Nebraska under the Niman Ranch umbrella.
